Art: Making & Exhibiting Unit 3

Collect, extend and connect

Welcome to Art: Making & Exhibiting! I am so excited that you have chosen this subject and am really looking forward to the coming year!

Assessment:

• Units 3 and 4 School-assessed Coursework: 10 per cent

• Units 3 and 4 School-assessed Task: 60 per cent

• End-of-year examination: 30 per cent.

In this unit we will be actively engaged in art making using materials, techniques and processes.

We will:

  • explore contexts, subject matter and ideas to develop artworks in imaginative and creative ways.

  • investigate how artists use visual language to represent ideas and meaning in artworks. The materials, techniques and processes of the art form the students work with are fundamental to the artworks we will make.

  • use our Visual Arts journal to record our art making.

  • record our research of artists, artworks and collected ideas and also document the iterative and interrelated aspects of art making to connect the inspirations and influences we have researched.

The Visual Arts journal demonstrates our exploration of contexts, ideas and subject matter and our understanding of visual language.

We will:

  • document our exploration of and experimentation with materials, techniques and processes.

  • plan and develop artworks from the ideas documented in our Visual Arts journal. These artworks may be made at any stage during this unit, reflecting your own ideas and their developing style.

In order to receive constructive feedback on the progress of your art making, and to develop and extend your ideas, you will:

  • present a critique of your artworks to their peer group.

  • show a selection of their developmental work and artworks from your Visual Arts journal in your presentation. After the critique you will evaluate their work and revise, refine and resolve your artworks.

We will:

  • visit an exhibition (x2 min) in either a gallery, museum, other exhibition space or site-specific space.

(Note: You must select one exhibition space for study in Unit 3 and a different exhibition space for study in Unit 4.

  • research the exhibition of artworks in these exhibition spaces and the role a curator has in planning and writing information about an exhibition.

The unit consists of three outcomes which see students complete:

For unit 3, we will be progressively reading through Ch 6.

Sometimes as a class and other times as homework or in small groups.

Helpful stuff:

*We will try to stick to the above dates as much as possible, but given the nature of the subject, gallery/exhibition availability, general school interruptions, these are subject to change...
